On January 14, 2025, New Mexico VA Healthcare System hosted an impactful in-person and live-streaming town hall event for veterans, their families and caregivers throughout the region. The event took place in the Educational Auditorium at Albuquerque Virginia Medical Center and featured an executive leadership team and experts on a variety of subjects who fostered an open dialogue about key patients' services and pressing concerns.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Dr. Breton Weintraub, director of the New Mexico VA. He expressed his gratitude to attendees and reaffirmed his commitment to improving care for veterans. “Your service and sacrifice have shaped this country, and now it's your turn to ensure you receive the timely, world-class health care you deserve,” he said, setting a positive tone for the lawsuit.

Dr. Weintrob introduced a panel of leaders dedicated to enhancing the veterans' experience, including Associate Director Matthew McGarlan and staff chief. Throughout the meeting, attendees had many opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback, creating an engaging and interactive atmosphere.

Dr. Weintraub highlighted a series of significant improvements aimed at improving patient care and operational efficiency. The facility implements advanced telehealth services that allow for more accessible consultation and follow-up, especially for remote patients. Additionally, new electronic health records systems have been introduced to streamline patient information management, resulting in faster and more accurate data searches. The hospital has also expanded its emergency department to better respond to increased patient volumes and provide timely access to care during peak times. Additionally, various wellness programs have been launched, focusing on preventive care and overall health, with the aim of keeping the community healthier and reducing hospitalizations. These updates reflect the hospital's ongoing commitment to providing first-class health services and improving the overall patient experience.

The announcement concluded with an emphasis on the importance of future SHEP research, designed to gather feedback to enhance the services offered to veterans. Participants were encouraged to quickly complete and return the survey so that they could hear the voice.

City Hall was not only an opportunity to share information, but also a chance for the community to gather. Participants were encouraged to actively participate both in person and Facebook Live, fostering a connected environment where veterans could express their thoughts and concerns.

“Tonight is about you,” Dr. Weintraub said. “Your feedback and questions shape the programs and services we provide. We're here to listen.”

Many participants seized the opportunity to speak directly with the leadership team. A considerable number of questions revolved around future changes in registration, profits, and management and community care. The teams often collaborated to respond based on their specialization and provide comprehensive answers.

The presence of local representative Anthony Gonzalez from the Veterans Benefits Department allowed veterans to ask general claim-specific benefits questions on the field. Veterans were also given the opportunity to fill out and submit recommendation forms for quick solutions. The VBA has pledged to review its submissions and follow up on veteran requests.

The New Mexico VA's dedication to its mission was evident throughout the evening. And City Hall served as an inspiring reminder of their continued efforts to honor and support many things to their country. Future City Hall aims to improve the experience of participants by extending the amount of time, allowing veterans to reach VBA representatives, improving audio for live audiences, and leaving more time for questions at the end of the presentation.

For veterans who want to be involved and provide information, the next town hall date will soon be announced on Govdelivery, around the hospital, and on all social media platforms. This format continues to emphasize transparency and collaboration, reflecting the central mission of the New Mexico VA Healthcare System. Provides world-class healthcare and support to veterans and their families, ensuring they are not independent after service.
