Firefighters responded to a home at Northeast 176th Avenue and Northeast Flanders Street, where the roof of the garage had collapsed when firefighters arrived.

GRESHAM, Ore. — A couple was sent to the hospital after their home caught fire in Gresham Thursday morning. Fire alarms and smoke detectors helped the couple escape the home.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm just after 6 a.m. at a home near Northeast 176th Avenue and Northeast Flanders Road. A neighbor also called 911. Gresham Fire Battalion Chief Mike Trager said they smelled gasoline when firefighters arrived. The fire appeared to have started in the garage and spread to the home. The roof of the garage was caving in when firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to put the fire out. No neighboring homes were burned.

An ambulance took the couple to the hospital. Troger said the man was injured but the extent of his injuries and his condition were unknown. He gave no details about the woman or her condition.

Neighbor Maria Hernandez shared the following video showing tall flames and a large column of smoke.
