CT, Hartford (WFSB) – An agreement has been reached between UnitedHealthcare and Hartford Healthcare.
Hartford Healthcare announced the settlement Tuesday morning.
It provided a statement.
“Hartford Healthcare and United Healthcare have reached an agreement to ensure that United Healthcare members ensure uninterrupted access to Hartford Healthcare physicians, hospitals and services. This is good news for patients and the community and allows us to continue our mission.”
The UnitedHealthcare and Hartford Healthcare contract were set to expire late at night on Monday, resulting in thousands of people losing in-network access to doctors.
Connecticut Office of the Healthcare Advocate has confirmed the news that Hartford Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare have reached a contract agreement. A statement was issued Tuesday afternoon.
We are grateful for the continued access to Hartford Healthcare for our patients. But we must recognize the pain and harm caused by patients who have been entrusted with for weeks for fear of losing access to doctors and critical care teams. The anxiety we heard from callers, including cancer survivors, families managing chronic diseases, and newly registered consumers, was realistic and deeply concerned.
The private terms of the transaction still leave patients with questions about how much it will cost to receive care from HHC providers over the next few years. Holt highlighted that this lack of transparency and brink in contract negotiations between providers and payers indicates how vulnerable consumers are when they get caught up in a disruptive crossfire of contract disputes.
We need to start a serious conversation in Connecticut about how to minimize the impact of these conflicts in the future. The current process means that consumers have no voice and no control. The Healthcare Advocate Office will continue to be the vocal and active advocate for our state's consumers.
