Abbeville nurse accused of stealing a patient's medicine

Tom Nakakeaga, a practical nurse licensed to a nursing home in Lancaster Township, faces multiple charges for stealing patients' medicines.

LANCASTER, Pa. — A licensed practical nurse at the Abbeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been charged with theft for neglecting a caregiving addiction after stealing a patient's non-narcotics medication after stealing a patient's non-narcotics medication.

Tom Nakekariga was found to be taking medication from a 77-year-old patient from June 6, 2024 to January 8, 2025.

Nyakariga stole other non-narcotics, including unidentified pills from patients, according to the Lancaster Township Police Department.

Nyakariga concealed the theft by blocking patient names on prescription labels and destroying product information.

Witnesses in the case reported it to the Lancaster County Aging Office and then referred the investigation to the Lancaster Township Police Department.

Nyakariga was charged on Friday, February 14th, with the charges filed before the honor of Mary Mongiovi Sponaugur.
