DUNCAN — A former nursing assistant at a Marlow nursing home has pleaded guilty in November 2022 to grabbing a resident with dementia and throwing him to the ground.
Emma Arena Harris, 35, of Rush Springs, pleaded guilty Oct. 1 in Stevens County District Court to a felony charge of custodial abuse, records show.
District Judge Brent G. Russell gave Harris a seven-year suspended sentence under the supervision of the Department of Corrections, along with certification of an anger management course. She must also surrender her nursing license.
Harris pleaded guilty to assaulting a patient during an incident at Gregston Nursing Home in Marlow on November 6, 2022.
The arrest warrant affidavit said security video showed Harris walking up to the patient and appearing to say something before “aggressively” grabbing her arm. Harris was then seen dragging the resident into the hallway on his way to his room, and when he arrived, he was seen grabbing the resident's arm and trying to pull him into the room, causing him to fall to his knees.
Ms. Harris was immediately fired.
