Michelle Baran, professor and associate dean for research at the Stony Brook School of Social Work, received the Herald’s 2024 Excellence in Healthcare Award at a ceremony on September 18th. Mr. Baran is also a professor in the Department of Family, Population, and Preventive Medicine. He holds a PhD from Renaissance School of Medicine and is the Director of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders (LEND) Program at Stony Brook University.
Mr. Baran’s research focuses on intimate partner violence, bioethics, medical education, and sexual health prevention and treatment interventions for adults with disabilities.
She is the recipient of a 2020 grant to incorporate disability content into medical school curricula funded by the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, as well as a Pfizer grant focused on reducing health disparities for patients with IDD presenting with COVID-19.
