Ten years later, Donald Trump’s health plan is still just a “concept” – Mother Jones

Former President Donald Trump Trump has a “vision plan” to replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. At least, that’s what he claimed during tonight’s debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in Philadelphia. Access to affordable health care remains a major issue for Americans, according to the Pew Research Center.

ABC News host Lindsey Davis asked Trump if he planned to repeal Obamacare, something he vowed to do while in office but failed to do. Recently, Trump walked back on this claim, saying he would keep Obamacare in place unless he could find a good replacement. Trump’s answers were very vague on serious issues like health insurance, but he knew Democrats would be to blame if there were problems.

“Obamacare was terrible. It’s not very good now. I said, if you come up with something, do it, replace it. But remember, I took over Obamacare because the Democrats wouldn’t change it. They didn’t vote for it. They were unanimous. They didn’t vote to change it. If they had, we’d have a much better plan than Obama’s plan.”

Davis asked if he had an alternative plan. Trump couldn’t seem to remember that he had the opportunity to create a new health care system while he was president and didn’t do it. Today, he still seemed unable to come up with a coherent answer, saying:

“I have a vision for a plan. I’m not the president right now, but if I come up with something, I would only change it if I could come up with something better and cheaper. And I have the vision and the options to get it done, and you’ll be hearing about it in the not-too-distant future.”
