WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Healthcare Systems of America (HSA) has announced it will assume operational management of several Steward Healthcare facilities, including Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.
HSA said the handover of day-to-day operations began on Wednesday, September 11. After a short transition period, HSA will assume full ownership of the following Steward Health Care facilities:
Glenwood Regional Medical Center – West Monroe, Louisiana.St. Joseph’s Medical Center – Houston, TexasMedical Center SE Texas – Port Arthur, TX.Coral Gables Hospital – Coral Gables, FloridaFlorida Medical Center – Lauderdale Lakes, FLHialeah Hospital – Hialeah, FloridaNorth Shore Medical Center – Miami, FLPalmetto General Hospital – Hialeah, Florida
Amy Gill of HSA spoke exclusively with KNOE staff in Los Angeles, California, where HSA is headquartered.
Gill said HSA is the same company as American Healthcare Systems, run by the same people, it’s just a new name.
KNOE previously reported on AHS’ bid for Glenwood.
Gill told KNOE that Wednesday’s announcement means HSA will begin the process of assuming management of Glenwood. Next steps on the path to full ownership include completing the licensing process with the Louisiana Department of Health, as well as handling the hospital’s payroll, vendor contracts and utility bills.
Gill said HSA’s number one goal is stabilization. She said a big part of that is working hand in hand with the community. Gill said patients can expect to see the same familiar faces at Glenwood.
“We’re moving forward with a plan,” Gill said, which will include access to quality health care for local residents and will look at all aspects of Glenwood for “top-down improvements.”
Gill said the HSA would work to rebuild community trust.
HSA CEO Mike Sarian has 30 years of leadership experience as a senior executive in the healthcare industry.
“Healthcare Systems of America is committed to providing these communities with the quality health care they deserve and protecting the jobs of the employees who make such great contributions to these hospitals and their patients,” Salian said. “Ensuring these communities have access to the critical health care they need is our top priority.”
Glenwood’s current owner, Steward Health Care, filed for bankruptcy in May 2024. HSA made a bid for Glenwood and other Steward facilities two months later in July.
Since then, the court hearing to finalize the sale of Glenwood to HSA has been postponed seven times. As of September 11, the hearing is scheduled for September 12 at 1 p.m.
