Dr. Eric Alper, Chief Quality and Chief Clinical Informatics Director at UMass Memorial Health, presented the widespread digital space of the healthcare system and its positive impact since opening last year.
“We didn't just want to have space that would allow for the space we needed, but we wanted to be the theme of digital and future themes,” Alper said of the location of the new digital hub in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Alper shared the goals of a unique digital hub at the heart of the health network.

“We have a team of people who can essentially do what is necessary to help our patients. We have access to all the technologies we need to care for our patients, including writing orders, careful examinations, order scans, scan reviews, and more,” says Alper.
Alper also discussed UMass Memorial Health's hospital initiative.
“Our hospital team is a team of nurses, doctors and other staff that can provide care in the home, those who are sick, those who need hospital care but need hospital care,” says Alper.
“We saw significant results from our home hospitals, which reduces mortality, improves safety and reduces readmissions for patients after discharge from the hospital,” Alper said. “We are extremely proud of this.”
