Join Us: Day of Action for Social Care – Tuesday 20th May 2025 at 2PM

On the fourth day of our campaign, we call on everyone who values the vital role of social care to take to social media and make their voices heard. Social care is not just a lifeline for millions—it is a pillar of our society, economy, and collective well-being.

This week’s announcement by the Prime Minister to freeze overseas recruitment through a new Immigration White Paper delivers yet another blow to a sector already under immense pressure. For social care, this isn’t just bad policy—it’s the revocation of a critical support system.

Despite contributing £68 billion to the UK economy, social care continues to be overlooked and undermined. The refusal to fund ENICs, now followed by a hostile immigration proposal, signals a growing detachment by the government from the people and services that hold communities together.

At 2pm on Tuesday 20th May, raise your voice online. Help us send a clear, unified message to government:
When we can’t care – who will?
#CareCantWait #InvestInCare
Immediate action is required to secure its future.

Our key messages to government are: Economic value of social care
● Social care contributes an estimated £68.1 billion annually to the UK economy through service delivery, employment, and associated spending [Skills for Care: State of the Adult Social Care workforce in England]

● Employs over 1.59 million people, making it one of the largest employment sectors in the UK. [Skills for Care: State of the Adult Social Care workforce in England]

● Supports many more jobs indirectly through supply chains and local economies.

● Every £1 invested in social care in England, there are £2.36 in socioeconomic benefits. [Skills for Care: Economic and social value of the UK adult social care sector: England]

Social care saves the NHS money:
● Every £100 spent on social care reduces NHS spending by £35. [Future Social Care Coalition, CARENOMICS]

Vital mental health support
As well as supporting people with ill mental health, social care is vital for unpaid carers mental health in the form of giving them respite and peace of mind their loved one is receiving the support they need.

We have created some #WhoCares? resources, but personal stories and videos about the impact of care services can be incredibly powerful. These testimonials help humanise the campaign, and highlight you cannot put a cost on care at a personal level.

So please do share your experiences or examples of care and use the campaign hashtags:
● #ValueSocialCare
● #ProvidersUnite
● #StrongerTogether
