More than 100 local health professionals, educators and community partners recently met at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake for an industry forum.

The fifth annual event focuses on resource tables, university updates, and keynote speaker Dr. David Schreiner on value-based leadership, technology adaptation, and healthcare appreciation questions.

“The forum provides a very good opportunity to build new community connections and strengthen existing relationships,” said Catherine Jones, vice president of workforce development at Mchenry County College. “It was exciting to share news about the ongoing expansion of healthcare programs at MCC with industry partners.”

Schreiner, former CEO of Catherine Shaw Bethere Hospital (now OSF St. Catherine), reflected on the leadership of the crisis, the need for real involvement, and a strong call to reshape the future of healthcare.

“This job is difficult,” Schreiner said. “Engagement is the muscles. You have to practice it. But when we do that, we connect with meaning, we inspire, we lead.”

Participants at the event also received various updates from Dr. Clint Gabbard, president of MCC, on the expansion of the university's medical program. After the main presentation, these programs held an advisory committee and welcomed new interested members.

“The opinions from employers during the advisory breakout session were invaluable,” said Christina Koklanis Road, dean of MCC's Mathematics, Science and Health Services. “The information obtained here will be used to enhance the student's learning experience.”
