The first responder was called to the strange Rebekah Nursing Home on Odd Fellow Road near Lafayette Avenue around 11:30am

Mattoon Police Station said a Nissan Pathfinder driven by 54-year-old Curtis A. Meadows hit the building. Meadows was arrested on suspicion of DUI, aggravated by Mattoon PD.

Two women were in their rooms at home when the car hit the building. According to Mattoon PD, an 82-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene, and the 86-year-old woman was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign.

A person answering the call at the Mattoon Fellowship Center across the street told Wand News that several police, ambulances and helicopters were originally on the scene.

The Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home Facebook page has issued a statement confirming death and hospitalization.

“Our hearts are directed at all affected people, and we are committed to the deep pathos of dolphins to the individuals who have lost their lives and to the loved ones who have lost their lives,” read part of the post. “Our team and paramedics responded quickly. We appreciate their prompt and professional efforts. The safety and well-being of our residents, staff and our community remains our number one priority.”

This is a developing story.
