Last March, James Muench and his wife, Helen, took over ownership of Bright Star Care, a business providing home health care. Now, exactly a year later, they have opened another branch in Grapevine and are looking at a third in South Lake.

Muench's company brings complete health care to your home. They provide services such as home nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, and nursing care.

“The demographics in this country are aging and many people want to stay home as long as possible,” Munch said. “So we do almost anything to help someone become more comfortable at home.”

Soon, they will be able to bring that quality care to Grapevine.

Muench gave credit to former owners Kevin and Teri Jones with their ability to expand very quickly after acquiring the business.

“The previous owners really left us in a great place,” he said. “They have really built a great foundation, but we're still very close to them.”

Muench entered the business after caring for her grandmother.

“I used to work in a company and I looked after my grandma for a few weeks and it made me realize I have a call to do this type of health care,” he said.

The call led him to reach out to Jones to make his dream come true.

He said he helped him find a good group of people who want to work and provide high quality care.

“We've found a lot of really great nurses who want to work and want to take care of people,” he said. “And really, our job is to bring them together and understand their client preferences. By doing these two things, we've grown our client base.”

What Muench is proud of is the process in which they bring new clients. BrightStar Care has Carolyn Edwards, a full-time nursing director with 40 years of nursing experience.

On the first visit with the client, Edwards will perform an assessment and visit the client's residence for free to take vitals before dispatching a caregiver.

“Carolyn is an incredible nurse,” Muench said. “She goes out on that first visit and sometimes does something very simple like the dangers of a watch with her grandma or something during the assessment.”

Muench enjoys success, but he is really in it for the community he serves.

“The reason we got involved in this industry was to help people,” he said. “We take it very seriously and it's important to keep our community in place.”
