HIMSS25 Survey Highlights – Performance Health Care
Key findings from the survey:
61.5% of respondents demonstrate that healthcare technology's top priorities improve patient outcomes, followed by increased operational efficiency (56.8%) and adopt innovative and cutting-edge solutions (55.4%). 77.0% of respondents demonstrate AI and machine learning, with EHR and interoperability (35.1%) next expected to have the biggest impact on healthcare over the next five years. Key factors when choosing a healthcare technology vendor include product reliability, strong customer support, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
These results highlight the health sector in transformation. This prioritizes innovation and outcomes while balancing pressures to reduce waste and maximize impact.
Strained Systems: The Urgency Behind Data
The findings come at a time when the broader health care system is undergoing unprecedented scrutiny. According to a recent US Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, in 2024, 16 federal agencies identified $162 billion in inappropriate payments across 68 programs. This does not include payments classified as fraud.
“The scale and scope of this issue is incredible,” said Simeon Cole, CEO of Performant. “While HIMSS healthcare leaders focus on innovation and efficiency, the reality is that fraud, waste and abuse have caused hundreds of millions of dollars of waste that can support patient care, health equity and resilience in long-term systems.”
Technology to protect against financial waste
With its track record of revealing Medicare Trust Fund's $1.3 billion savings over the past three years, performers have played a key role in protecting large-scale healthcare funds. “The research sees what we see in the market. Healthcare organizations prioritize technologies that drive meaningful, measurable quality outcomes,” added Christian Bass, SVP and payment integrity.
Grant Kordash, SVP, Technology added: “By identifying patterns and trends within large datasets, AI and machine learning can optimize payment processes, reduce errors, and increase overall efficiency. As we look to the future, leveraging AI and machine learning focuses on innovation and client outcomes.”
What's next: Shaping a more resilient future
As the healthcare industry continues to digitalize and evolve, performers are committed to equipping payers, providers and government agencies with the tools they need to protect every dollar. “Innovation is not just about solving the next big thing, it's about solving the big problems,” said Amanda Purvis, SVP of Product Innovation. “By combining powerful data analytics, AI-driven workflows and decades of expertise, we help our clients tackle the extremely realistic financial inefficiencies that plague the US healthcare system. That's the future we're building.”
