Aiken, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – Healthcare can be expensive. That's why Eiken's Social Justice Committee held an event to provide resources to people.
They call it a healthcare coverage gap where adults don't have insurance through their work and can't afford Medicaid too much.
The goal of the group is to raise awareness of the gaps between people and people in everyday life.
“I think people are worried about their neighbors' health,” says Judy Chamberlain, co-chair of the Social Justice Committee. “I know that over 50% of South Carolina people think that these people who fall into the gap should have medical compensation. Statistics show that 60% or more of this is what I think is important.”
Medical debt is one of the biggest reasons for bankruptcy in the US
The group encourages people to reach out to local lawmakers and hear their voices.
