JACKSON, Mich. (WLBT) – One woman has been killed in a domestic conflict at a Jackson nursing home.
The murder and suicide occurred around midnight Friday in Pine Forest health and rehabilitation, Jackson police said. The family says it happened around 10:30pm.
Destiny Karee Stewart, 27, was shot once in the head in the car park of a nursing home.
Police said 29-year-old Samuel Coleman had argued with Stewart before the fire began. He then went to his car and shot himself.
Stewart was a certified nursing assistant at the facility. No one in the facility was damaged. Stewart and Coleman were taken to a local hospital where they discontinued life support on Saturday.
“Whatever the situation is, if she wants to move on in life or end her relationship with him, that should have been the end of it,” said Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade. “It shouldn't have been a situation where you had to take her life and then take your life, because now both families are being destroyed forever here in Jackson City.”
No repeated requests for comments have been returned to the Pine Forest Bureau.
JPD offers conflict resolution training every Monday at 6pm at 3000 St. Charles Street police training academy.
