All 44 Mumford Nursing Home residents were safely evacuated after a nearby wildfire threatened the facility. No injuries have been reported.
The fire approaching from the north did not disrupt the power to the nursing home. “Our maintenance guy looks great at 6am this morning,” owner Frank Sullivan said. “We're working to get everyone back to the building.”
Staff Ricky Joe and Jamie coordinated the evacuation to ensure that all residents were safely relocated. Meanwhile, firefighters formed a line of defence, preventing the flames from spreading further into the town.
“They absolutely started lineing up trucks, lined up water and soaking all the houses they next lined up for the flames,” Sullivan said. “They made sure that everyone in Mumford didn't burn out.”
Due to stable conditions, residents are being returned to the facility. Sullivan thanked firefighters and paramedics for their efforts to protect the community.
