Helen Steer is remembered by his loved one
Helen Steel, 95, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in a nursing home in Burlington Bay, surrounded by her family. Helen's family is deeply saddened by her loss, but she is relieved by the precious memories she has left behind.
A legacy of love and devotion
Born in Burlington on November 20, 1929, Helen was the daughter of the late Irvin and Theresa (néebolkering) Arnold. She grew up on a farm outside Burlington and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Burlington. On September 16, 1950, Helen married Raymond T. Vanderwharf at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington. Together, they built a home on a farm in Kenosha County. After Raymond's unexpected death in January 1969, Helen continued to raise his family and later remarried Marvin K. Steer on March 1, 1986. Marvin passed away in 1993.
Helen dedicated her life to her family with a special passion for housework, cooking and gardening. She loved life and found joy in her hobbies, such as collecting recipes, playing cards, shopping. But her true joy was to take care of her flowers.
Survived by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
Helen was survived by her children: Diane Kruger, Janet Coleman, Jim (Sherry) Vanderwharf, Pete (Jeanne) Vanderwharf, Joe (Sandy) Vanderwharf. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Jason (Kim) Vanderwelf, Jody (Pat) Sullivan, Brian (Jesse) Vanderwelf, Adam (Jannin) Kruger, Kevin Kruger, Mark Kruger, Holly de Gland, Brett Vanderwelf, Krelf, Mundalf, Mundalf ((Levi) Kelly; 11 great grandchildren, Brelin and Ty Kruger, Jacob and Liam Vanderwelf, Porter, Walker, Elsie Vanderwelf, Page and Brooke Krenz, Lenka and Wesley Vanderwelf.
Helen was also survived by sisters-in-law, Janet (Ray) Arnold and Pat (Dick Arnold) Abler, many Nie, ne, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her young sister, Mary Lou Arnold, and her brothers, John, James, Raymond and Richard Arnold.
I am truly grateful to the caregivers
The family is expanding their special thanks to Dolly Frey, who became Helen's “guardian angel” during the nursing home, as well as their caring care and legacy hospice. The family also expresses gratitude to Burlington Health and Rehabilitation caregivers for their kindness and support.
Commemorative details
Thursday, May 8, 2025, 23209 Church Rd, 23209 Kansasville, Wisconsin. A Christian burial will be held at 11:30am at St. Mary. Private burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Flower Lieu allows you to make a commemorative donation to Legacy Hospice in Unione Grove, Wisconsin, or to a charity of your choice.
